IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING NEW YORK STATE ASSESSMENTS
March 19, 2018
Dear Parents/Guardians of Students in Grades 3-8:
In a few weeks, the New York State Grades 3-8 English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics Tests will be administered to students. Beginning this year, the number of test sessions for these annual assessments will be reduced from three days to two days. Additionally, like the 2016 and 2017 tests, the 2018 Grades 3-8 ELA and Math Tests will continue to be untimed.
The ELA will be given on two consecutive school days on Wednesday, April 11 and Thursday, April 12, and the math on two consecutive school days on Tuesday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 2.
As a parent, you play an important part in helping your child succeed – not only in school, but while taking important exams. At CSEE, we have been busy teaching and reinforcing the skills necessary for students to flourish academically. Here are some things you can do to help support your child at home.
THE NIGHT BEFORE THE EXAM:
- Make sure your child gets a good night’s rest so that they are well-rested.
- Keep your routine as normal as possible. Upsetting natural routines may make children feel insecure.
- Encourage your child to do their best. Be positive and confident that your child will do their best.
THE MORNING OF THE TEST:
- Get up a few minutes early to avoid rushing and to make sure your child reports to school on time.
- Have your child eat a healthy breakfast, at home or at school. There is a strong correlation between eating breakfast and memory and cognitive functioning.
- Talk with your child. Be positive and communicate that this is your child’s chance to show what they know. The most important thing you can do right before testing is to build confidence. You can do this!
Please make sure your child reports to school every day, on time, and ready to learn.
Please call the school if you want additional information, or have further questions about these exams.
Sincerely,
Cindy Lopez
Principal
