An exciting, first-ever West African Festival in Yonkers to celebrate the rich and dynamic culture of West Africa.
Mayor Mike Spano will visit and be honored with a traditional invocation. Friday, the event starts with a beautiful film, Finah Misa Kule which tells the story of West African immigrants, with the producer and director, followed by a drum performance.
Saturday and Sunday will feature traditional West African food, drumming, singing, dancing performances and exciting African art workshops. Yonkers' own Aramide and Aisha Badru will be singing and performing contemporary and ancestral songs. This is a great family event appropriate for all ages. On Saturday Mayor Mike Spano's African American Advisory Panel will present their Art Contest and exhibit with the Mayor presenting the awards. Please join us!
